Elizabeth Cason Crosby Cheely
Ms. Cheely is a native of Baldwin County, Alabama and joined the firm in 2006. Her areas of specialty are trademark law, legal research and writing, probate (wills, trusts and estates), and real estate. She has extensive experience assisting local and national clients in creating new trade names and design trademarks; assessing the availability and registrability of trademarks; preparing and filing federal and state trademark applications; communicating with the United States Patent and Trademark Office during the trademark review period in an effective manner to overcome initial objections to registration and advance clients’ trademark applications forward to final registration; handling United States Patent and Trademark Office actions for previously filed trademarks, including reinstating lapsed applications or appealing refused applications; issuing cease and desist notices to prevent infringement on clients’ trademarks; and representing clients in other legal actions related to trademark infringement.
Ms. Cheely received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003 from Princeton University, where she studied in the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs and was an editor and senior writer for the Daily Princetonian. She received a full tuition merit scholarship to the University of Notre Dame Law School, where she graduated cum laude in 2006. At Notre Dame, she was a Thomas J. White Scholar, and she served as the executive articles editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy. Ms. Cheely was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in December 2006, and she was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in November 2012.
Ms. Cheely is licensed to practice in both Alabama and Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Alabama and Pennsylvania Bar Associations as well as the Intellectual Property Section of the Alabama State Bar Association. Her proficiency in legal writing has led her into state-wide leadership roles with the Alabama State Bar Association. She has served on the Editorial Board of both The Alabama Lawyer magazine and The Addendum publication of the Alabama State Bar Association.
